Operation: La Boca, pastel version

Nafplios

DAY 2

We enjoyed a hearty breakfast at our hotel: Oat biscuits, pain au chocolat, greek yogurt, bread with Nutella, bacon and fried eggs, and steaming cups of coffee or tea; all while gazing at the sea.

Then we followed a path parallel to the beach until we entered the town centre.

This village reminds me of a neighbourhood “La Boca” in Buenos Aires, in pastel colours.

For lunch we had pizza and strawberry smoothies at a seaside restaurant.

We followed a path next to the sea and climbed some small steps where we found a mini Santorini. It was a chapel painted in blue and white

Operation: Sunset Road

Nafplio

DAY 1

We drove off at around 5 in the afternoon. An eternal sunset surrounded us as we left Athens behind, illuminating majestic mountains from behind, making the brilliantly blue sea glitter. At each bend in the road, the sky had changed its palette of colours.

Nafplio is around two hours away from Athens, but as today there were road closures because of farmer’s strikes, we took about half an hour more.

The upside is that we took the more scenic coastal road, and we stumbled on Kafasias, a quaint little seaside village. We parked the car to stretch our cramped legs and snap a couple of photos.

By the time we arrived in Nafplio, it was already dark. But it was so beautiful, a thousand glimmering lights sparkled on the sea, and the village itself didn’t dissapoint. It was a piqtuesque as magazines and the internet claim it is.

After checking into our hotel, we set off to explore.

I surprised an inhabitant of the haunted house

Creepy abandoned house. Possibly haunted?

hilarious!

Pretty wire trees
We settled for Gyro again for supper. I liked this one more than the one I had in Plaka, as I changed the order slightly. Pork instead of chicken, yogurt sauce instead of mayonnaise, and no onions. The restaurant was nice too. Middle eastern music played softly and quirky decorations were placed pleasantly around.

This village has the charm of an island while still being so close to Athens.
